David and Lauren

Hi! I’m Lauren! I’m the writer of this blog. I am a busy girl who works at a very magical place. I have bigger plans for myself, but this will do for now.

I was inspired to write this blog after my boyfriend David and I started spending a lot of our days off in the parks. Hey, a girl’s mind does tend to wonder when she really likes someone. So thanks David for the inspiration. Since then, I have been doing my best to travel on my days off and find some pretty sweet places. It doesn’t always work out that way. I do have bills to pay and David and I hardly get to see each other unless we have days off together. So I apologize if the blog slips sometimes. I am looking to get a few more partners for the blog…so if you are interested, contact me.

Anyways, a little bit about David and I. I wanted to donate a few posts to our relationship to help inspire other girls to keep looking. Their perfect guy is out there. It just takes some time. Trust me, I don’t know how many guys would put up with my Disney/Wedding obsession.

David and I met during a perfect time of year here. We met during EPCOT’s Food and Wine Festival. This was perfect because David, being a cook, loves both food and wine. Me, being a well rounded lover of almost all things, loves both food and wine as well. We had so much to talk about when we first met. Trying different foods and beverages. Turns out we are both adventurous beer lovers. Who knew!? This has lead to many great conversations and quests in our relationship. “What beer should we try tonight?” is a constant question asked when we are able to have dinner together.

When I met David, I was expecting someone a lot different than I got. When I met David I was only living in Orlando for about two months. I was still getting acquainted with the surroundings and people. I had no interest in finding a guy, getting into a relationship, or anything other than friendship and furthering my career at this point. David was quite a surprise to me.

Before David I had two bad experiences with men. I was in a rather long and abusive relationship in high school and in college I was in a rather short and stupid relationship with a guy who was denying himself what he wanted the whole time (which was an amazing girl to whom he is now happily married and though we don’t talk I am super happy for both of them. They are perfect for each other). I had pretty much given up on guys and I was happy where I was in my life. When I met David, I was expecting a 30 something year old guy with a girlfriend or wife. That was not at all what I got.

David was a young, recently graduated cook who had been working for Disney for about 2 years when I met him. He is very very talented. I tell him this just about every day. I know there are bigger and better things waiting for him outside Disney. However, we are both content for right now. We are gaining experience and trying to save money one penny at a time. We hit it off right away and have been together ever since.

Last month David and I celebrated our one year anniversary. It was very exciting and a bunch of fun. I have fallen in love with my best friend. I think the best part of this is that David has helped me open myself up and become who I am today. I used to tell people all the time how much I loved to do outdoorsy things but I never had time or anyone to do them with. David and I go indoor rock climbing whenever we have a day off together and we love it. He pushes me to be the best that I can be. He supports me when I enter into some dangerous baking quests (which have turned out amazing!) and he is there through all of my frustrations and pain. I’ll focus more on that in another post.

Lesson to be learned: Don’t lose hope. When the timing is right, you will find Mr. Right. I know how cheesy and cliche that sound but it is very true. Believe in love and love will come to you. Just be yourself and let your world fall into place around you. There is no reason to lose hope. If you do, come talk to me.

Much Love

Sunset Point

The other day my boyfriend David and I awoke very early to make our 7:45 reservations at Kona Cafe for breakfast. Kona is located inside Disneys Polynesian Resort, just one of the three resorts that sit along the Seven Seas Lagoon. We were sleepy-eyed but excited. This would be a first for both of us and we found it extremely wonderful. We left Kona happily stuffed on breakfast and decided to walk around the resort. I had brought my camera incase I was struck by inspiration and you all are in luck because I was.

There are many beautiful locations in this resort to spend a special moment with the one you love, but there are two particular spots that stuck out to me. The first is along the beach and/or dock. At 8:30 Am the beach was empty and extremely peaceful. We enjoyed our quiet walk after breakfast and the stunning view of both Disney’s Wedding Pavilion and Cinderella’s Castle across the lagoon. We also found out that the beach is one of the most popular places to watch the fireworks at the end of the night.

The second location is a place called Sunset Point. This is a beautiful hilled location that looks straight across the lagoon at Cinderella’s Castle. You could watch the sun rise there, but it is an even better location to watch the sun set. There is a little path between some palm trees and it would provide the perfect place to share an intimate moment with your love. It also has a great view of the castle to watch the fireworks from.

The Polynesian Resort provides a sweet tropical getaway in the midst of a crazy world. Stepping inside you find tropical tress and waterfalls. You find some music, huge windows that let in warm sunlight, and a fun relaxing atmosphere. It’s a tropical destination without having to go to the tropics. It may just be a Disney resort, but it’s an escape. I hope that you can find yourself as inspired there as I was.

This week’s party idea stems from the movie Alice in Wonderland!

Let’s have a Mad Tea Party!

There are many ways that you can create your own mad tea party. Here are a few ideas that I’ve come up with!

1. The Simple, but mad, Tea Party

For this party you want to use lots of colors. Bright colors or pastels, but keep to one or the other.

Paper lanterns and colored christmas lights hung around the party area make for a nice atmosphere.

Brew a few different kinds of tea, use different types of tea cups for each person.

The key is to be as mismatched and crazy as possible.

A cool idea for music would be to mix different songs together and blend them into each other. If you don’t know how to mix music like this, just make a mix of the most random songs possible.

Food: Finger Sandwiches, Cookies that say “Eat Me”, mix of fresh fruits different colors, Strawberry tarts for the Queen of Hearts.

Remember to have fun and act crazy!

2. Serious Mad Tea Party

If you are looking to plan a BIG party here are some ideas to add to the simple tea party.

Ask your guests to bring a mug and before the tea drinking starts have the guests trade. This way each guest leaves with a different mug they came with.

Some of the most awesome cakes I have seen are titled “Mad Hatter” cakes. These cakes usually consist of 3-4 layers of round cake placed one on top of the other at a lopsided angle to create a titled hat shape. They are covered in different colored fondant and have all kinds of different designs on them. If you are throwing this kind of party as a birthday party or celebration party and need a cake, this would be a great idea. It’s also an easy cake to make yourself!

Here is a picture of a Mad Hatter cake:

Invites for this party can be as creative as you want them to be. The following are some ideas for creative invites:

A circle invitation that has the writing spiraled “Follow us down the rabbit hole for a Mad Tea Party”  On the inside place the location, date, time, and other party details you want your guests to know.

A circle clock, pocket watch type, the has “Don’t Be Late” written on the clock face. On the inside write “For A Very Important Date, along with location, date, time, and other party details.

A Mad Hatter’s Hat invite that states “Let’s Go Mad” or “You’re invited to our Mad Tea Party”. Be sure to include your party information on the inside.

Remember to always have fun and be creative with your party. Let who you are as a host shine through and wow your guests.

Please feel free to comment with ideas, suggestions, comments or even pictures if you have had your own Mad Tea Party!
